Cartagena

The absolute best things about Cartagena as told by me…

  • Going from 0 degrees in Toronto to 30 degrees + in Cartagena
  • The indescribably beautiful doors, door knockers, balconies and colours of each house (especially learning that the bigger the door, the wealthier the household and the door knockers signifying the occupation of the household – mermaids/anchors/fish etc for sea merchants, lions for military and lizards for royalty)
  • The fresh fruit we ate constantly, and especially the juices
  • Staying at the clock hostel, which was beautiful, and excellently located – a very good first hostel experience for me
  • The lack of English spoken which gave us a real immersion into our Spanish
  • Being able to wear a dress and sandals again after 6+ months
  • Our first taste of Colombian food – arepas, empanadas, pan de queso, and lots of fresh seafood as enjoyed by Matt
